Evaluation of the Pattern

The pattern is useful and the example helps to understand the pattern.
I would suggest to elaborate the ontological presentation of the patter,
i.e., explain in more detail the modelling principles (in OWL) of the pattern
as depicted in Fig. 1.
Furthermore, Fig. 1 is not readable as some text is missing (not completely displayed).
Thus, for the final submission, both the Figure and the explanation of
the OWL-modelling principles have to be improved/added.
|ReviewSummary=The pattern extends (or restricts) the n-ary relationship pattern (Pattern1) from W3C. In the W3C pattern, the elements of the n-ary relation are non-distinguished. In this case, the inverse property means defining the inverse property of all properties.

The proposed pattern makes a simple, but from my point of view a quite restricting assumption. In the n-ary relation, there are two distinguishable elements and the ontology engineer is only interested of the inverse property of the property that connects this two elements.
The other elements are considered as optional.

Concerning this restriction, I doubt that this is really a n-ary relation! The focus is only on the relations between this two distinguishable elements. The others can be neglected.
|ReviewSummary=This pattern describes a taxonomy creation from a classification scheme based on a path enumeration model.
The idea is to represent the parent and children relation from the classification scheme which is a rooted tree by subClass relations between concepts in the taxonomy.
This kind of representation and transformation is straightforward and simple, but the pattern is quite complex.

The proposed pattern could be interesting for discussions at WOP since schema re-engineering is common modelling problem.
However, the pattern as it is proposed is rather complex for a very simple and basic modelling guideline (classified tree entities represented in a taxonomy). Therefore the quality and relevance of this pattern is not very high.

|ReviewConfidence=good
|ReviewProblems=The pattern is quite complex for a very simple ontological modelling approach, i.e. represent parent and children relations with subclass relations of concepts.
It seems that the process description and process example are executed in different directions: the process description starts with the general concept (parent node in the tree) and then considers the children nodes (sub-concepts), whereas the process example description starts with the subclasses (more special classes) and continues with the more general classes.
It focuses a common modeling problem.
The proposed anti-pattern is technical sound.
However, it is quite simple.
{{Logical OP Description Template
|Motivation=We have identified a set of patterns that are commonly used by domain experts in their DL formalisations and OWL implementations, and that normally result in unsatisfiable classes or modelling errors. As aforementioned all these antipatterns come from a misuse and misunderstanding of DL expressions by ontology developers. Thus they are all Logical AntiPatterns (LAP): they are independent from a specific domain of interest, but dependent on the expressivity of the logical formalism used for the representation.
|Aim=The ontology developer may want to say that C1 and C2 cannot share instances, instead of defining C1 as the logical negation of C2. Hence it could be more appropriate to state that C1 and C2 are disjoint.
|ReviewSummary=The motivation of the pattern is very good and in fact the misunderstanding of DL expressions leads to modeling errors and ambiguity. However, I'm not sure whether this pattern is very helpful.
With respect to the described "Aim" in the pattern, I don't understand why a developer defines C1 as the logical negation of C2 instead of
(probably more intuitive) using a disjointness axiom.

This could be a very interesting pattern/topic for discussion at WOP, for instance what is the intention of using disjointness instead of negation (are there benefits)?
However, the submitted pattern proposal so far is to weak to be accepted as a pattern. At least more explanation is necessary.

|ReviewConfidence=good
|ReviewProblems=For acceptance the pattern needs further explanations why it is
beneficial to use disjointness instead of negation.

|ReviewRelevance=good
|ReviewBestPractice=Here an explanation is missing why this kind of pattern refer to good practice. Simple examples would improve the understanding.
|ReviewReusability=This would be reusable since it refers to a very common and frequent modeling problem.
|ReviewSummary=The proposed pattern (or anti-pattern) is useful for ontology
engineering, especially for less experienced developers.
It focuses a common modeling problem.
The proposed anti-pattern is technical sound.
However, it is quite simple.

Due to the simplicity of the pattern there are
few discussion issues at WOP.

|ReviewConfidence=The reviewer is familiar with ODPs in general and with the described modeling issue and proposed solution.
|ReviewProblems=Due to the simplicity of the pattern I doubt that the notion of a
design pattern somehow changes to a collection of simple modeling
primitives.
|ReviewRelevance=Definitely relevant for the community.
|ReviewBestPractice=Relevant to best practice modeling.
|ReviewReusability=The pattern is reusable.
|ReviewUnderstandability=The motivation of the pattern is well written. Unfortunately there is a breakup in the text.
The overall description of the pattern is well understandable.
|ReviewClearProblem=The problem is clearly described.
|ReviewClearRelevance=The relevance of the pattern and its benefits are given.
|ReviewFigures=Figures are missing.
