Ontology Overview

Name: Music Ontology
Description: The Music Ontology Specification provides main concepts and properties for describing music (i.e. artists, albums, tracks, but also performances, arrangements, etc.) on the Semantic Web.
Purpose: To publish and interlink a wide range of structured music-related data on the Web. The music ontology is used as an interlingua to facilitate interoperability among different music data sources.

Justification Had many revisions, is widely used (see the linked data cloud). An evaluation methodology was developed and used it to evaluate the music ontology. Various applications were built; dealing with deal with personal collection management, enhanced access to large audio streams available on the Web and music recommendation.
