Goal:

To teach computational ontologies and Ontology Design Patterns for the semantic web.

Brief description

A two-day PhD course teaching computational ontologies and Ontology Design Patterns for the semantic web.

Schedule:

  • Day 1
    • 09:30-10:00 Introduction to computational ontologies and ontology engineering (Lecture) - Aldo
    • 10:00-10:30 Introduction to the semantic web and applications of ontologies (Lecture + "testing" online applications)
    • 10:30-10:45 Coffee break

10:45-11:45 (1.3+2.3) - Interactive lecture on OWL and NTK (including reasoning and SPARQL): 1 hour (-FAO slides on MobyDick, minus intro) 11:45-12:15 (2.3) - Introduction to ODPs in general and logical patterns 30 min (-ISWC slides, pattern introduction) 13:30-14:15 (2.4) - Interactive lecture on advanced NTK features (logical patterns): 45 min (-ISWC slides, logical patterns) 14:15-17:30 - including coffee and questionnaire (2.5) - Experiment Task 1: 3 hours (- hospital task setting)

- day 2 (= total 6 hours 15 min + 1h15m lunch and two breaks) 09:30-10:00 (3.3) - Introduction to Content ODPs: 30 min (- theoretical, characteristics, CQs and unit tests…) 10:00-10:30 (3.4) - Interactive lecture on Content ODPs using the XD plugin: 1 hour + 10:45-11:15 (-ISWC slides, starting on slide 14, but with different domain – CW matching and SPARQL testing) 11:15-12:00 (5.2) - Introduction to the XD method: 30 min (- Valentinas slides from the paper presentation?) 13:30-14:15 (5.3) - Interactive lecture on XD, focusing on the first part on constructing CQs and unit tests: 45 min (- exercise from music industry example) 14:15-17:30 - incl coffee, questionnaire and closing (5.4) - Experiment Task 3: 3 hours (- theatre setting)
