How to propose an exemplary ontology (in a nutshell)

  1. Go to the Exemplary Ontology Catalogue page to make sure the ontology is not already there.
  2. Click the Submit a new Exemplary Ontology button.
  3. Fill out a form describing various aspects of the exemplary ontology.

Recommended Procedure for Submitting Exemplary Ontologies

Step 1: Is the exemplary ontology you wish to submit already in the Exemplary Ontology Catalogue?

View the Exemplary Ontology Catalogue. Is the ontology you want to add already there?

  • Yes? Click to open the ontology and check the information for accuracy and completeness. Make changes and additions as appropriate. You are finished.
  • No? From the catalogue page, click the Submit a new Exemplary Ontology button and continue to step 2.

Step 2: Filling out the Exemplary Ontology form

  • Fill in the mandatory fields:
    • Name:Enter the name of the exemplary ontology.
    • Description: Give a concise description or abstract of the ontology, highlighting what is most important.
    • Purpose: Indicate what the ontology is for and what the intended benefits are to whom.
    • Justification: Explain why the ontology is exemplary.
    • URI: Give a URI of where the .owl file may be found.
    • Domains: Enter one or more domains, separated by a comma.
  • Fill in as many optional fields as you can.
    • Organization List the major organization(s) associated with this ontology. This may be who owns and controls the ontology, the organization(s) managing associated projects, or where most of the work was or is being done.
    • Licensing What if any licenses is the ontology available under.
    • Authors List the major authors and contributors that created the ontology.
    • Competency questions: Enter one or more competency questions, separated by a comma.
    • Scenario: Describe one or more situations where this ontology is particularly useful.
